Outside of our beautiful properties, the region (as we sometimes call it) during summertime offers so many fun, entertaining events and festivals. From Whiting's world-famous Pierogi Fest®to Crown Point’s weekly cruise nights and brew fests to Hammond’s Festival of the Lakes featuring iconic musicians from across the country, you will never fall short on things to do during the hot months when you live here.

NWI is known for its rich roots in musicians—check out original artists or find your favorite cover band playing all over from breweries to festivals to weekly concerts in the park. If farmers markets are your thing, just about every town here hosts them all season! In areas like Cedar Lake and Lowell you can find local farmers’ produce and many markets feature custom-made products from NWI artists like paintings, clothing, and beauty products just to name a few.

NWI is a family-oriented community, and we never fall short on activities that include all ages. Many of our parks located in towns like Griffith, Highland, and Munster host several weekday and weekend events like movies in the park, food trucks, and special dog events for man’s best friend! Our churches bless us with food-oriented outdoor gatherings and carnivals for the whole family to celebrate our faith and family.

If there is one thing we can count on during the summer, it’s our bike and walking trails—they lead us everywhere! You can ride from our Southshore Indiana Dunes trails all the way to Wolf Lake right off the tip of Chicago. Take the family for a walk or ride on one of our fabulous trails—bring a backpack with snacks and sunscreen, and you can travel to many parks, coffee shops, and downtown shopping without ever needing your car!
